The Mandel School will be participating in the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Foundational Course for 2018-2019: Foundations of Interprofessional Collaborative Care.

The course is required and will be opened to you with an invitation from Canvas the week of September 3rd. In this course, you will be placed on a team with 8 or 9 other professional students from several CWRU health sciences schools and programs (Medical, Dental, Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, Nutrition and Physician Assistants). The number of students in the professional schools differs, so each group will have a slightly different configuration. You will work with this team for the entire experience, which spans over fall and spring semesters (see course outline below). We hope you learn to understand the value of incorporating multiple professional perspectives when managing patient/client issues. All assignments and information will be posted on the IPE Canvas site.  

Course Description:

This course provides students from the health professions the opportunity to engage in a dynamic and interactive team learning environment to better understand the goals, purpose, and benefits of interprofessional collaboration. This course will be presented as a series of online modules containing didactic content, team-based workshops, discussion boards, interactive interprofessional discussions, videos, case studies and a simulation that will provide students the opportunity to meet and work together in small interprofessional groups. Guided by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies, the course content will introduce students to: professional role identity and appreciation of other team members, practices of effective teams, leadership, emotional intelligence, and interprofessional team skill development. At the end of this course, participants will have begun the process of acquiring readiness for participating in interprofessional collaborative care teams.

Fall 2018 Schedule

Pre-class Exercise (Canvas) – Will become available the week of September 3rd and must be completed prior to the IPE Class #1.

Interprofessional Class #1 – Students will attend one of three small group sessions. You will attend either: September 26th, October 3rd or October 10th. You will be notified of the date through Canvas.

Fall Workshop – October 24th. There will be two sessions, the first session starts at 1pm and the other session starts at 3pm. Your time and table number will be posted on the Canvas site. (Please arrive 10 minute before your session starts so we can check you in and help you find your table. Bring a device to access the Internet to the session with you.)

Interprofessional Class #2 – Students will attend one of three small group course sessions (October 31st, November 7th or November 28th). You will be notified of the date through Canvas.

Spring 2019 Schedule

Pre-Class Exercise 2 (Canvas) – Will be released in January of 2019 – you will be notified when available.

Interprofessional Class #3 – Students will attend one of three small group sessions. You will attend either: January 30th, February 6th or February 20th. You will be notified of the date through Canvas.

Simulation Exercise – Students will attend one of six three small group courses.  You will attend either: February 20th, February 27th, March 6th, March 27th, April 3rd or April 10th. You will be notified of the date through Canvas.
