Additional Information

MSASS students can also propose to amend their field learning contracts to receive credit for 48 field hours (instead of taking as course credit) toward the completion of either SASS 401, 501, 502, or 504. Seminar participation for 48 hours of field hours must be approved by field instructors and students must also complete all assignments required for the course (and address specific questions related field)

All students must turn in deposit, forms, copy of passport, and are required to meet with faculty member BEFORE registering. All students must be given permission electronically from course contact person to register (except for MSASS students)

Please fill out these forms and return to Debby Jacobson along with 2 copies of your passport (please Xerox page with your photo and passport number).
You can put all forms, Xerox copy of passport and checks in an envelop (which are outside Debby's office) and slip under my door (room 108, MSASS).

All programs require a non-refundable deposit of $250.00 to hold your spot.

Programs DO NOT include
  • Cost of getting passport
  • Course credit hours (the regular cost of tuition you pay for all or your courses)
  • Your transportation to and from Case to the airport and back
  • Non program travel, museums, etc.
  • Calling home to the U.S & internet usage
  • Guatemala - Need to purchase meals
  • Kenya - Need Vaccination. Check with the Travel Clinic at least 6 weeks before you leave
  • Netherlands - Need to purchase lunch & dinner

Assignments
  • Mandatory Pre-trip orientation (January 26)
  • Meetings in Jan, Feb and April (trip Spring Break)
  • Blackboard Sites are set up in advance of first seminar contact so that students may have access to syllabi, course reading list and have instructions for first assignment

All courses have pre-trip and post-trip assignments
  • First seminar - January 26th -Preparation, Personal Safety & Health, Expectations, Culture & History
  • Second seminar - February date TBA Social Problems, Policy & Practice and Social & Community Development Settings; often includes US site visit
  • Third seminar/trip - 5-10 days x 8 – 12 hours of field visits, host University lecture and/or discussions
  • Fourth seminar - April date TBA Debriefing about culture shock, new learning, implications for practice; turn in final project & evaluations
