El Salvador: Women and Community Development

When is the trip?
We are pleased to announce Case Western Reserve University, Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences and International Partners in Mission are joining together to offer a study/travel program to El Salvador for the approximate dates: December 8 - 16, 2007.

How many credits will I receive for completing the course?
The trip is the same as a 3 hour or 30 CEUs

What will we be doing in El Salvador?
Participants will have an incredible journey experiencing the Salvadoran culture and history visiting Mejicanos, San Salvador, and Zaragoza. By visiting the martyr sites of the civil war and spending time with the children, women, and youth of IPM’s Project Partners, this experience provides a profound understanding of this beautiful country. The trip will help the participants understand the country's intriguing political, economic, and religious history.

Sample activities include:
  • Spending one day attending lectures at the University of Centeral American.
  • Lectures cover a range of subjects such as the history of the country, Civil War, and human rights
  • Visiting the convent and cancer hospice where Monsignor Romero lived & was assassinated in 1980 in San Salvador
  • Spending a morning with IPM Project Partner Lidia Coggiola School, a preschool for children in El Zaite
  • Lunch at The Women’s Health Promotion Training Program Project at Mejicanos
  • Visiting IPM’s Project Partner Fundacion Aragon, a primary and secondary school in El Zaite
  • Spending an evening at IPM Project Partner Mujer y Comunidad in Zaragoza
  • Exploring the Pacific Coast in the beautiful city of La Libertad

How many people are going and how much is the cost?
Space is limited. Cost will be approximately $1,700.00. This will include international airfare, in-country travel, meals, double occupancy accommodation as well as translation and international and regional staff to guide the trip. Cost does not include tuition or CEUs. 30 CEUs costs will be $400.00. For more information please contact Soad Mansour at MSASS soad.mansour@case.edu
