This is an opportunity for the on-campus students to participate on an inter-professional student team of dental, medical, nursing, physician assistant and social work students in a clinical settings that builds upon your experience in the IPE modules and workshops.

Students will work collaboratively at five selected clinical sites with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and two community health centers (FQHCs) in underserved areas. Teams will meet weekly for 4 hours in the afternoon for 12 weeks in the spring (Wednesdays, January 24 – April 18). The clinical sites are:

  • The Cleveland Clinic Emergency Department;
  • The Cleveland Clinic, Medical Intensive Care Unit;
  • The Cleveland Clinic, Inpatient Pediatrics Department;
  • Neighborhood Family Practice; and
  • Care Alliance

This is an excellent opportunity to spend time in a patient care setting, make a contribution to improving care, and learn more about teamwork and how to collaborate with fellow health care providers. Collaborative team activities will occur in both workshop and clinic site settings.

Participating in this interprofessional team experience also has research components, which include completing questionnaires, reflection papers, and direct observation and video-recording of your team interactions. Participating in this elective will require you to sign a research informed consent document that we will review with you in detail before your enrollment.

I-LEAP will supplement your existing field placement experience. You will participate in 4 hours each week, which will be counted as field hours. You must receive approval from your Field Faculty Advisor and Field Instructor to participate.

We can accommodate a maximum of five (5) students this spring. Please respond via email by submitting an updated resume and a brief statement of interest including two preferred site choices to Dr. Scott A. Wilkes (scott.wilkes@case.edu). Please respond by Friday, December 8th. Team members will be notified by the mid January.
