National Academy on an Aging Society
This non-partisan policy instutute "conducts research on issues related to population aging and provides information to the public, the press, policymakers, and the academic community." Research is focused on issues such as income and health security. The site provides the full-text of reports and background papers on topics such as older workers, public policy, and chronic conditions. Fact sheets and data profiles are also available. National Center for Mental Health and Juvenile Justice
Operated by Policy Research, Inc., in Delmar, NY in partnership with the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators (CJCA) the Center was established in July 2001 to assist the field in developing improved policies and programs for youth with mental health disorders in contact with the juvenile justice system, based on the best available research and practice. National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA)
The site provides an extensive summary of the term "elder abuse" and its many contexts, as well as information on elder abuse statistics, state phone numbers for reporting abuse, and a list of publications. There is also a link to the Clearinghouse on Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly (CANE), which provides annotated bibliographies on specific abuse-related topics for free and also has a database to search their holdings. National Center on Family Group Decision Making (FGDM)
A Program of the American Humane Association. Using the Family Group Decision Making philosophy (family conferencing -- a one-time meeting where families and their relatives make plans for the well-being of their children) allows families to become more involved with the child welfare agencies that make decisions. The FGDM concept empowers families to develop a workable plan that protects and nurtures their children, rather than professionals setting up a plan for the family that may not work. The FGDM Center offers services to support this philosophy such as training, technical assistance, roundtable discussion notes, newsletters, and other information. [Listed February 5, 2002. National Child Welfare Resource Center for Organizational Improvement
This Center focuses on child welfare issues related to management and operations, organizational capacity and service integration. The site provides information on the Child and Family Service Review process, free downloadable publications, and links to other resource centers. National Child Welfare Resource Center for Youth Development
(Formerly: National Resource Center for Youth Development)
This organization, through collaboration with the Children's Bureau of DHHS, provides training and technical assistance to publicly administered and supported child welfare agencies. At first glance the web site seems a bit sparse; but, if you click on Resources, then the link to Publications, you will get full-text reports on foster care and independent living. National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information
A service of SAMHSA, and now called PREVLINE, this government organization provides information and services related to substance abuse issues including alcohol abuse, illicit drug use, and misuse of prescription drugs. The site provides access to databases that provide citations and abstracts on drug-related topics. The Quick Facts... pull down menu connects to a variety of fact sheets and publications. National Clearinghouse on Families & Youth
This Clearinghouse is part of the Family and Youth Services Bureau of the Administration for Children and Families (and links on the site go back to both parent organizations). The focus of the site is on resources that support a youth development approach designed to reduce risky behaviors on the part of young people by focusing on positive models. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV)
Informative web source tht provides current domestic violence statistics, including abuse in later life, dating violence, psychological abuse, etc.  This site also provides public policy updates and position papers.  There is also a suggested reading list and much more.  [Listed November 29, 2007.] (NCADV)

National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH)
The NCH is a national advocacy network of homeless persons, activists, and others committed to ending homelessness through public education, policy advocacy, and grassroots organizations. Its site provides information on Legislation and Policy including advocacy efforts, existing and pending laws, and government committees with jurisdiction over homeless and housing programs. Facts About Homelessness includes fact sheets on various aspects of homelessness. Each sheet summarizes facts and issues and contains a list of recommended reading for further research. National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)
The National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan organization dedicated to serving the lawmakers and staffs of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories. The site provides links to all of the state legislatures. National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD)

National Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence

National Council on the Aging (NCOA)
NCOA is a coalition of organizations and individuals devoted to promoting the dignity, self-determination and well-being of older persons. It pioneered such programs as "Meals on Wheels" and "Foster Grandparents." The Advocacy section highlights pending legislation related to older persons and provides policy updates and links to other organizations. You can also do a search of the site by keyword. National Criminal Justice Reference Service

This organization is "dedicated to promoting and preserving the well-being of children at risk of being removed from their family." National Institute of Justice (NIJ)
The NIJ is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and is dedicated to researching crime control and justice issues.  NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to meet the challenges of crime and justice, particularly at the state and local levels.  NIJ's principal authorities are derived from the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, as amended (see 42 USC ยง 3721-3723) and Title II of the Homeland Security Act of 2002.   [Listed November 29, 2007.] (NIJ)

National Institute on Aging (NIA)
The mission of NIA is to improve the health and well-being of older persons through research. The Web site focuses on research funded through the National Institutes of Health and the site is most helpful as a resource for locating grant opportunities and research efforts in the area of aging. The Health Information section includes links to other Federal aging resources and links to their Publications Site which included many brochures and booklets about aging in both English and Spanish. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
A government-sponsored site that provides links to Other Resources, Frequently Asked Questions about alcohol abuse and Publications (including the full text of the quarterly bulletin Alcohol Alert and the tables of contents for Alcohol Research & Health). National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
The work of NIDA is focused on research related to the health aspects of drug abuse and addiction. Its website serves to disseminate that research to a wider audience than just the scientific community. The site provides summary information on drugs of abuse, links to other organizations doing alcohol-related research, and access to selected NIDA publications. National Institute on the Education of At-Risk Students

This site provides health information resources by the National Institutes of Health. The NIH mission is to uncover new knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone. This site contains resources from the world's largest biomedical library. To locate information on medical topics, search free MEDLINE using PubMed. National Parent Information Network (NPIN)
(NPIN) is a project sponsored by the ERIC Clearinghouse on Urban Education at Teachers College, Columbia University; and the ERIC Clearinghouse on Elementary and Early Childhood Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The purpose of NPIN is to provide information to parents and those who work with parents and to foster the exchange of parenting materials. National Youth Advocacy Coalition
