Cancer Information Service (CIS)   [1-800-422-6237]
This information is provided bythe National Cancer Institute, the Federal Government's primary agency for cancer research. Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
The Catalog provides comprehensive access to information on programs and projects administered by Federal departments and agencies, along with details on funding levels. The home page provides information on how to use the catalog, brief descriptions of Federal agencies and pointers for developing and writing grant proposals. The Catalog itself allows you to search by many different criteria including name of agency, applicant eligibility, program deadlines and type of assistance. [Listed April 1, 2001.] (CFDA)

Catalog of Nonprofit Literature
[Formerly: Literature of the Nonprofit Sector]
"The Catalog of Nonprofit Literature is a searchable database of the literature of philanthropy. It incorporates the unique contents of the Foundation Center's five libraries and contains more than 25,000 full bibliographic citations, of which more than 17,000 have descriptive abstracts. It is updated daily."--Website.  Items included are relevant books, articles, and non-print resources such as CD-Rom and audiovisual materials. Cato Institute
The Cato Institute is a nonpartisan public policy research foundation headquartered in Washington, D.C. The Institute has a libertarian bias and (according to its Web site) encourages policies and opinions "consistent with traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty and peace." "The Center for Community Solutions provides strategic leadership to improve targeted health and social conditions in Greater Cleveland through research, analysis, communication, and organization of community resources for action. Center for Effective Collaboration and Practice (CECP)
This organization fosters the improvement of services to children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders. The Issue Areas section provides information on cultural competence, school violence, juvenile justice, special education and more. The site also provides comprehensive MiniWebs on topics such as functional behavioral assessment, wraparound planning, and strength-based assessment. Center for Social Informatics, Rob Kling
Social Informatics (SI) refers to the body of research and study examining social aspects of computerization. This includes the roles of information technology in social and organizational change, the uses of information technologies in social contexts and the ways that the social organization of information technologies is influenced by social forces and social practices. The Center is based at Indiana University School of Library and Information Science. This program of the American Bar Association Young Lawyer's Division focuses on law and court-related topics relating to children. Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development
The Center, which is affiliated with the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, seeks to address the problems of persistent and concentrated urban poverty. It is dedicated to understanding how social and economic changes affect low-income communities and their residents.  The Center maintains the Northeast Ohio Community and Neighborhood Data for Organizing Area Network on Data and Organizing (NEO CANDO) - a free and publicly accessible social and economic data system covering the entire 17 county Northeast Ohio region, or for specific neighborhoods within the region.  (NEO Cando was formerly the Cleveland Area Network on Data and Organizing (CANDO) - a database of statistics on income levels, education, vital statistics, crime, and housing in Cleveland neighborhoods.)  The full-text of some publications of the Center are available online. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
This site provides current reliable information about diseases, treatment, prevention, data and statistics and many other resources.  It also points you to information on international travel health concerns, which include topics such as recommended vaccines, and geographic health recommendations. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
The CMS (formerly the Health Care Financing Administration) is the federal agency that administers Medicare, Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Changing America
The full title of this report is Changing America: Indicators of Social and Economic Well-Being by Race and Hispanic Origin. It was prepared by the Council of Economic Advisers for the President's Initiative on Race. The chart book, which is in PDF format, provides data around differences in well-being and describes how such differences have evolved over the past several decades. [Listed July 11, 2001. Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago
Chapin Hall is a research and development center focusing its research on the needs of children and the ways in which those needs can be met. Particular attention is directed to children facing special risks or challenges such as poverty, abuse and neglect, and mental and physical illness. Child & Family WebGuide
This site was designed and built by a team of librarians and child development faculty at Tufts University for students and parents. The site rates and reviews research-based child development websites in the areas of education/learning; health/mental health; family/parenting; resources/recreation; and typical child development. Child Trends
This nonprofit nonpartisan organization is devoted to research on children and youth indicators. The site includes links to Web sites in the areas of welfare & poverty, teen pregnancy, fatherhood, and children & youth. It also provides access to its online publication, The Child Indicator, that includes articles on projects and programs using child and youth indicators at the national, state, and community levels. Child Welfare League of America (CWLA)
The Child Welfare League of America is a nonprofit organization dedicated to "developing and promoting policies and programs to protect America's children and strengthen America's families."    The site links to the National Data Analysis System (NDAS) allowing users to customize tables and graphs using data compiled from national child welfare agencies. Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD)
CHADD is a national non-profit AD/HD advocacy organization founded in 1987. It provides "general (non-clinical) information on AD/HD in children, teens, and adults."   The Public Policy link provides current information on policies related to education and employment while the Research link provides current research on ADHD. Children, Youth, and Family Consortium
The Children, Youth, and Family Consortium, based at the University of Minnesota, offers a wide range of information and resources on children and family research, teaching, policy, and community practice. Topics include early childhood, school-aged children, and adolescent issues. The site is geared mainly towards Minnesota Children's services, however each subsection offers links to national programs and current policy changes that will be of interest to all. Children's Bureau
This federal agency is located within the Health & Human Services' Administration for Children and Families and assists states in the delivery of child welfare services. Children's Bureau Express
The Children's Bureau Express "covers news, issues, and trends of interest to professionals and policy makers in the interrelated fields of child abuse and neglect, child welfare, and adoption."    It is supported by the Children's Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and published by the Child Welfare Information Gateway.  The Children's Bureau Epress offers a free e-mail subscription for professionals looking for information on the latest child welfare publications or current news and resources from the field. (From the navigation bar on the left-hand side, click on the  Free Subscriptions tab in the Tools section.)  The service will be an excellent reminder to review the site for practical and up-to-date information from the U.S. Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families. Children's Defense Fund (CDF)
The Children's Defense Fund gathers data, disseminates information, and monitors both state and federal policies. Its site includes information on CDF's stand on issues affecting the nation's children, summaries of its reports and research findings, links to other websites, and background on CDF initiatives such as the Black Community Crusade for Children. Some of the information is directly tied into the CDF mission that every child should have a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start. [Listed April 1, 2001.] (CDF)

Chronicle of Philanthropy
The Chronicle is a bi-weekly newspaper focused on a range of funding and philanthropic issues important to the non-profit community. The Deadlines section of the site links to current information on grant and fellowship opportunities. "The Daily Column provides daily news updates and has a Blog Roll thta show links to blogs relted to fundraising and philanthropy."  Full access to articles and other features is only available to subscribers, although non-subscribers may view the Tables of Contents of current and past issues. City of Cleveland Government
This section of the City of Cleveland website links to the city departments. Included is the Cleveland City Council's website with a calendar and list of members. The Resources section includes a phone directory broken down into three areas: Cleveland General Government Listings; Other government and civil organizations listings; and Cleveland Entertainment Listings. The Clearinghouse on International Developments in Child, Youth and Family Policies
Columbia University's Institute of Child and Family Policy created this website to act as a single course for information and data about other countries' child, youth, and family policies. The clearinghouse's website provides cross-national, comparative information on policies, programs, benefits, and services in 23 advanced industrialized countries to address child, youth, and family needs. Scope of the site includes laws, regulations, policies, programs, benefits, services designed to achieve specific objectives with or for individuals in their family roles, or the family as a whole unit. The Coalition on Human Needs (CHN)
CHN promotes adequate funding for human needs programs, progressive tax policies and other federal measures that address the needs of low income and other vulnerable populations. CHN tracks many human needs issues at the federal level and provides members and general public with federal analyses, news reports, and Congressional updates. College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD)

Community Development Society
A membership organization that provides leadership to professionals and citizens involved in community development. CYC-Net
CYC-Net is a South African based non-profit organization for individuals interested in child and youth care. The site provides an e-mail discussion group, news feeds around issues related to child and youth care, an index to the year's news, and a Reading menu that contains a Journals link giving summaries of articles from other journals, and a Reference Library .
