To look for citations to journal articles or the full-text of articles in a variety of
subject disciplines, choose the
"Research Databases" option on the main
Library Catalog page. This will provide you with a
comprehensive alphabetical list of over 185 databases available through Case Western Reserve
University to authorized affiliates (including those available through OhioLINK, the CD-ROMS and
SilverPlatter). Clicking on one of the subject headings (for example, Social Sciences) will take
you to a subset of databases most appropriate for that topic area.
Remember that the way in which you search for journal citations will vary for each of the
databases. Each of them, however, will allow you to combine keywords to find material on your
topic. Identifying concepts related to your research topic is the best way to prepare for doing
online database searching. Using a
thesaurus can
help you select those concepts. Many of the databases will also have an online thesaurus or index
to assist you in choosing correct terms for that database. To help you organize the key concepts in

Searching in most of the databases will lead you to just the citation and abstract or summary)
of journal articles. Some databases, however, provide the full text of the journal article. Icons
next to each title in the list provide keys to the content and access points for each database.
