Library Catalog: Call Numbers



Each online Library Catalog entry gives you information concerning a book's call number, location and status. Here is an example:

Title Social work treatment : interlocking theoretical approaches / edited by Francis J. Turner
Imprint New York : Free Press, c1996
Edition 4th ed

LOCATION  CALL NO.  STATUS 
  MSASS Reserve    HV37.S579 1996    CHECK SHELVES

Call numbers are unique identifiers used to locate books within a library. The Lillian F. & Milford J. Harris Library uses the Library of Congress (LC) classification scheme for its collection.

A sample LC call number looks like this:

       HV37 .S579  1996



Other libraries on the campus of Case Western Reserve University also use the Library of Congress (LC) classification scheme.

A sample LC call number looks like this:

       HV37 .B873



When doing an online catalog search, make sure to write down the complete call number of the book you want to find on the shelves.
