This is a selected list of databases on the web of interest to social workers. There is
generally no charge for accessing the databases, although some databases may require the user to
select a password or provide other identifying information.
AGELINE
AgeLine is available electronically through the
Case Research Databases list and as a
free database on the web. It provides bibliographic coverage on aging in a social, psychological,
health related and economic context and is published by the American Association of Retired Persons
(AARP). Updated bimonthly it has selected coverage from 1966-1977, and inclusive coverage from 1978

Catalog of Nonprofit Literature
[Formerly: Literature of the Nonprofit Sector]
"The Catalog of Nonprofit Literature is a searchable database of the literature of
philanthropy. It incorporates the unique contents of the Foundation Center's five libraries and
contains more than 25,000 full bibliographic citations, of which more than 17,000 have descriptive
abstracts. It is updated daily."--Website. Items included are relevant books, articles, and
non-print resources such as CD-Rom and audiovisual materials. Roughly 67% of the citations have

ERIC
The Educational Resources Information Center is a federally-funded national information
system for a broad range of education-related issues.
ERIC DATABASE
On October 1, 2004, the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) began offering free,
full-text, non-journal ERIC resources. These materials include more than 107,000 full-text
documents which were previously available through fee-based services only. This material is now
available through the
OhioLINK Research Databases. The full-text is
only available for ERIC documents with dates of 1993 or later. New ERIC documents produced from now
on will be only in electronic format. ERIC documents produced prior to 1993 are still available

ETOH
This Alcohol and Alcohol Problems Science Database is produced by the National Institute on
Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. It contains over 100,000 records on alcohol and alcoholism.
Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Index
Produced by Indiana University this database indexes material concerning topics and issues
relevant to the nonprofit sector and philanthropy, which are published in both popular and
scholarly journals. Coverage is from 1940 to the present. Since 2003 other materials such as
dissertations, working papers, websites, and other information have been added to the

Urban Institute State Database
This database is part of the Urban Institute's project titled "Assessing the New
Federalism." It provides state statistical information on income security, health,
child well-being, demographic, fiscal and political conditions, and social services.
