Faculty at MSASS are distinguished in a wide range of areas. We address many facets from a
life-span perspective, starting with prenatal development to the elderly population. Helping people
and vulnerable populations is the heart of our mission at MSASS. The subject areas of our work are
broad, but they have in common a concern for social justice and the empowerment of people in their
communities.
Over the past several years, our faculty has seen a substantial increase in federally funded
research. Awards of research and training grants to our 30-member faculty totaled almost $6 million
in external funding, which was the second highest amount in the Mandel School's history. Studies
range from micro examinations of individuals and families to macro studies of neighborhoods and
communities.
Faculty research and training activities have been used by human service agencies, county and
state governments, and federal agencies to improve public policy and service delivery.
