Study Abroad Guatemala

The Study Abroad course to Guatemala over Spring Break, led by faculty members Victor Groza and Zoe Breen Wood, accepts and distributes donated items to several charitable organizations in Guatemala — which they and the students personally transport in their luggage.  These donations are always greatly appreciated and received quite warmly.   Please consider donating any or several of the following list of supplies.  You may leave your donation at the Mandel School to the attention of either Victor or Zoe.  Thanks in advance for your generosity.
  • General craft supplies such as embroidery, knitting, sewing, crochet, beading, etc. Often people have knitting needles, crochet hooks, needles in an attic and never use them. Even old working sewing machines are helpful. There are many projects that teach women how to sew and give them a sewing machine.
  • Stationery: pens (if you are buying the multi packets please test them to make sure that they are good quality and work. A lot of the really cheaper ones don’t work).
  • Pencils, coloring pencils, marker pens, (not too many crayons please, they are heavy and the projects usually have too many crayons), paints, glue sticks, scissors, rulers, erasers.
  • Calculators, scientific calculators, again used ones are okay.
  • Clean used children and baby clothing in good condition. Socks and underwear for children.
  • Asthma and diabetes medications and testing kits etc. (You don’t have to buy new, ask family and friends who use medications if they have extras). Please check they are not past the use by date.
  • Adult diapers
  • Girls hair ties and clips. Combs for boys and girls.
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss.
  • Soccer balls, basket balls & little kids balls.
