Happy Dog Euclid TavernThe Mandel School is proud to team up with the longest running storytelling show in Cleveland, Keep Talking, for a night of social work-themed stories at the Happy Dog at The Euclid Tavern in our Uptown Cleveland neighborhood on Tuesday, March 22, at 8:00 p.m. All are invited to us to join us for a great night – either by submitting a story to tell OR coming to hear all the stories!

Keep Talking is a monthly storytelling show in which real life, everyday people get on stage and share true stories about their life based on a specific theme. To celebrate our Centennial and Social Work Month, the Mandel School has asked Keep Talking to  produce a night of stories from social workers and the experiences they face day to day in the world of social work. Everyone is welcome to submit a story and come hear the stories!

The theme for the evening will be “Rewards and Challenges.” We want to hear about the rewards or challenges you have faced since entering the field of social work (or, if you’re a student, since starting your field education). What has been an experience in social work that pushed you to the edge? That made you question why you ever got into social work in the first place? An experience that, in spite of how challenging it was, left you feeling inspired or motivated? How did you push through?

Every social worker has great stories, so let’s hear yours!

Any alumni, students or faculty/staff member may submit! All stories must be true, must connect with our theme AND social work in some way, and must have happened to you (sorry, no retelling stories from your Aunt Jackie). Stories may be funny, sad, shocking, emotional, intense, embarrassing, whatever! We just want to hear a true story that has happened to you.

If you’d like to be considered for the show, please send a short summary of your story with a beginning, middle, and end (no cliffhangers, please!) to KeepTalkingCLE@Gmail.com with the subject “Rewards and Challenges.” No need to write a novel! A few paragraphs or bullet points will suffice so long as it clearly illustrates what your story is about. Deadline for submissions is March 15th and the folks at Keep Talking will make the final selection of storytellers.

Still not quite sure what we’re looking for? Check out this live recording of a past Keep Talking performance to hear what the show is all about:
