Program Description
The M.S.S.A./M.B.A. dual degree program is designed for candidates who wish to prepare for
advanced social work practice in a variety of clinical settings, while developing the skills to
assume management responsibility in those organizations.
Admissions Requirements
Candidates must apply separately to the M.S.S.A. program at the Mandel School of Applied Social
Sciences (MSASS) and the M.B.A. program at the Weatherhead School of Management (WSOM), and
complete all application requirements of both schools, indicating on both applications their intent
to join the dual degree program. Admissions decisions are made independently by each school. After
admissions, each school will copy the other school on the admission decision. Candidates to the
joint program will be expected to meet admissions standards for academic records, test scores, and
other criteria set by both schools.
Program Structure
M.S.S.A./M.B.A. students may begin the dual degree program at either school. Students will
continue to register in the school at which they began the program, regardless of the school they
are attending. When students have completed all degree requirements for both degrees, they will
receive separate diplomas for each degree.
Credit Requirements
There are 102 credits in the M.S.S.A./M.B.A. dual degree program (51 credits at MSASS, 51
credits at WSOM) compared with 123 credits if both degrees were completed separately. By
integrating the coursework, completing some coursework over the summer, and reducing the elective
requirements in each program, joint degree students may complete the M.S.S.A./M.B.A. dual degree
program in three years instead of the four years required if both degrees were to be completed
separately.
