Hello I am Steve Vassor and I am a first year MSASS student...I came...from Baltimore, Maryland
or a town that's just south of Baltimore. I did my undergraduate degree at Morgan State University,
which is a historically black college.
I chose social work as a degree, or as a career, because I was interested primarily in
developing and implementing a Rights of Passage program for young African Americans and adolescent
males. I believe that social work is the best place, the best way to go to develop that.
I decided to attend MSASS because after visiting I was impressed with the class sizes, with the
seminar style, the teaching, the relaxed atmosphere that is here. Since I've been here, it's hard
it's hard work no question, but it's definitely been an enjoyable experience.
When I was shopping for graduate schools I was looking for something away from the East Coast
because I've been oriented to the East Coast so Mandel was definitely the place that I wanted to
be. They have great staff and faculty and the people here at Mandel are well connected in the
community as well as nationally and internationally. There are more opportunities here than I can
take advantage of and that's great.
